Established in 2008 by Artistic Director Gabriella Smart as a platform for collaboration, discourse and performance of new music, SANMF aims to provide an opportunity for audiences old and new to connect with contemporary music through its choice of diverse and innovative programming. As a new music festival, Soundstream is committed to the development of contemporary music practices and the creation of new works through the support of emerging and established Australian composers and performers. He has composed and collaborated across the fields of dance, theatre, film, installation and hybrid work.]]></description> <content:encoded><![CDATA[<h2>ALEXANDER WAITE MITCHELL</h2><h2>COMPOSER / NEW MEDIA ARTIST / TECHNICAL DESIGNER</h2><p>Alexander Mitchell is completing an MA in Composition at The University of Adelaide’s Elder Conservatorium under the pedagogy of acclaimed Australian composer Graeme Koehne.  He is the recipient of ‘The Athol Lykke Award for Postgraduate Studies in Music’ and has composed for companies including; The University of Adelaide Theatre Guild, Cirkidz, Riverland Youth Theatre, Milkcrate, Footlight’s Revue, AC Arts and Company Of.  Alexander plays the piano and violin and composes instrumental and digitally realized works. He has composed and collaborated across the fields of dance, theatre, film, installation and hybrid work.</p><p>Alex successfully exhibited his film <em>Found</em> – a public art video triptych, in DIGITAL SITES:VALIDATE at the Adelaide Railway Station, as part of an initiative between Transport SA and Carclew Youth Arts.</p><p>Since 2003, Alex has developed a significant creative partnership with choreographer and director, Amanda Phillips. He has produced scores for their works <em>Agent of Language</em> featured at the 2007 International Symposium of Scenographers (China); <em>Ivory</em> (as premiered by Australian pianist, Gabriella Smart); and <em>Look Left: Not Right</em>, which premiered in Shanghai as part of the ‘Shifting Horizons’ program. In 2009, their work <em>Future Memory</em>, premiered as part of The Adelaide Film Festival – the first full dome work for dance in Australia.</p><p>He also has collaborated on <em>Site Lines </em>(a video and telematic inter-arts performance resulting from Johannes Birringer’s workshop at the Performance Space in Sydney 2006), and composed for the following dance works: <em>CRUSH</em> (2006); <em>Morphic Resonance</em> (2006); <em>M</em> for the South Australian Living Artists Festival (2006); and <em>Manifest</em> (2004, ADT’s Ignition season), and he has created music for <em>Temporary Occupants</em> (Shanghai, 2005), <em>subliminal translation</em> (2004, TNUA/Cloud Gate 2 Young Choreographer’s Workshop), and <em>Gameories and Gamebles</em> (2003).</p><p>In mid 2007, Alexander was resident at the Taipei Artist Village, courtesy of the Australia-China Council Residency program, where he worked with traditional Asian instruments and learned from local musicians.  Recent projects include: Leanne Ringlestein’s <em>Holding Pattern</em> for Choreolab in October 2007; The AC Arts Graduates showcase, with Peter Sheedy; re-scoring Buster Keaton’s silent film ‘The General’ (1929) for the ‘Silent Remasters’ series, Mercury Cinema; Playground’s <em>Wearing Away Our Lips</em> and Riverland Youth Theatre’s <em>Hoons</em> for the Adelaide Fringe 2008, and recent film projects:  <em>Wamphyri</em> (Rachael Wegener) and <em>Journey of the Heart</em> (Adrian Crawford).</p><p>Alexander Waite Mitchell co-created Australia’s first fulldome dance film, <em>Future Memory</em>, with Amanda Phillips – which premieried at the Bigpond Adelaide Film Festival 2009 and is the co-creator of <em>3xperimentia</em> in 3D stereo.</p> ]]></content:encoded> <wfw:commentRss>http://felicityarts.com.au/create/people/alexander-waite-mitchell/feed/</wfw:commentRss> <slash:comments>0</slash:comments> </item> </channel> </rss>
